Betty LaRue Patton passed away on June 6, 2011 at the Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, Idaho. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday June 18m 2011 at 1:00pm in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Bonners Ferry, Idaho with interment in the McArthur Cemetery at Naples, Idaho. Betty LaRue Cooke was born in the covenant on the 25th of November 1930, to Harvey and Denise Cooke in Riverside, California. She had a younger sister, Beverly. She lived in Banning, California and in West Los Angles, California. She was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on the Sixth of May, 1939. While in high school, she wanted to be a costume designer for the motion picture industry. She was an accomplished seamstress and made a lot of her own clothes. She always had an eye for fashion. On the Sixth of August, 1949, when she was 18, she married Gordon T. Rogers. She had four boys, John, Bob, RO,n, and Chuck. They lived in Los Angles and Torrance, California. The costume designing was forgotten so she could care for her children. She became a grocery checker and worked at this on and off for many years. On the 24th of January, 1964, she married James A. Patton and stayed with him until the end. She and her family lived in a number of places in California~ Eugene, Oregon~ and in British Columbia, Canada. As empty nesters, they moved to Watsonville, California and lived there for about 13 years. From there they lived in Cedar Crest New Mexico for about 20 years, before moving to Naples, Idaho last year. She loved all of her 4 Boys, 27 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great -great-grandchild. She enjoyed watching the animals from her front window, and waving to the passing trains. One of the families favorite memories is the time we lived in Oregon, it was Christmas and we had barely enough to eat, let alone Christmas presents (I remember potato and onion soup). Two days before Christmas, Dad went to a tree lot and told the attendant he was going to steal a tree for his kids. He went to grab a Charlie Brown tree, but the attendant told him to get a nicer one, he refused. The Day before Christmas, Mom got a call from the Greyhound bus station. They had a package for us from our aunt and grandparents. Mom walked a mile or two and received a package too large to carry. They asked her where her car was, she said she walked. They asked her how she was going to get the box home. She asked if they had any rope. She drug the box all the way home. She unwrapped every gift and re-wrapped everyone. When we woke up the next morning, we were truly surprised. My best Christmas story ever. She was proceeded in death by her Father, Mother, and sister Beverly. Family and friends are invited to sign Betty’s book at www.bonnersferryfuneralhome.com Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.
