Lester L. Howard passed away on December 9, 2011 at the Boundary County Nursing Home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Services will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 1:00pm at the United Methodist Church. He will be laid to rest in Grandview Cemetery, with Military rites by American Legion.
He was born Oct. 18y 1919 in Mulvane Kansas to Harry L and Ada Mickle Howard. He came, with his parents, to Bonners Ferry in Oct., 1935, to escape the dusty storms.
He graduated from the Bonners Ferry High School in 1937. He married Doris
MacDonald on Dec. 29, 1940. Their children are Virginia Lee Howard Hoglan Weller and Robert E. Howard and wife Judy. They have four grandchildren, Lauring; Heidi; John and Leslie. Five Great Grandchildren, Kirsten; Kaitlyn; Ramsey; Daniel and John; one Brother Myrel and one Sister, Jeanne. He was preceded in death by his Parents, one brother, Glenn (Bud) and one sister, Betty Patterson.
His work during his lifetime was varied; a logger; working in a lumber mill; Clerk in the Courthouse; Grocery Clerk; Owned and operated the Exxon Service Station and Bulk Plant with Dayton Douglas for 20 years; the Forest Service: and the last part of his life, before retiring, worked as a Car Salesman for Riverside. Lester, served 2 years in the service in
Camp Roberts, California.
During his life he had and still belonged to some of the following: Boy Scouts of America, Troop 114; Boundary County Airport Board; The Gideon’s; the Draft Board; United Methodist Church Member for 50 years or more; American Legion, over a 50 yr. member; The Disabled Veterans; A.A.R.P.; Methodist Men's Club; Friends of the Restorium; and the Knights of Pythias. One of the highlights of his life, was when awarded the "IDAHO LEGIONNIARE OF THE YEAR”, in 1995. He was chosen from 11,000 members.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho or the American Legion Memorial Fund.
