Horatio ( Gene) Stalcup passed away Saturday Feb. 11, 2012 at the Kootenai Medical Center. The family is planning a Memorial Service at Brad's Moyie Springs residence in the spring. Born June 14, 1927 in Minneapolis and grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota. Gene started out working for the Great Northern Railroad as a cook in the "Empire Builder" dinning car. The late 1940's to 1958 he was a licensed American Motorcycle Association professional racer competing in the nationwide scheduled events in the summer months and working as a machinist during the long Minnesota winters. In 1958 a near fatal crash ended his racing career but not his love of motorcycling. In 1961 he opened a B M Wand Yamaha motorcycle dealership and repair shop in Riverside, CA. and also continued advancing his machinist skills and training on the side. In 1970 he headed for the northwest and settled in Bonners Ferry the summer of 1971 - started and operated G & M Manufacturing, a general machine shop, in the 3-mile area until his death. Gene's rides to motorcycle rally's all across the country and Canada from Bonners Ferry were among his fondest memories, he also enjoyed square dancing, hunting, fishing, camping, and golf. He is survived by his sister Inez Pond of Bloomington, MN. - Three nieces Yvette Mealman, Connie Mealman, Nancy McCoy and nephew James Pond. One daughter Vicky Stalcup, granddaughter Dena Neice and four great grandchildren all in the Riverside, CA. area, His son Bradley Stalcup and wife Kathy of Moyie Springs - grandchildren Tiana Dirks, husband Amos and three great grandchildren Tessa, Wyatt, and Holly of Potlatch, 10. - Grandson Adam Michel, wife Lauren of Moyie Springs - and his companion, for the last ten years, Beverly Torrence of Bonners Ferry.
