Lois Lorene Smith

Lois Lorene Smith was born on March 15, 1914 in Hollis, Oklahoma to Jesse James Mears and Pearl Omar Mears. She was the fourth child out of six - three brothers, two sisters; she was the last remaining. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Texas where her father worked as a farmer until moving to New Mexico in 1930 to open a grocery store and service station. She married Foster Lee Mayo on December 24, 1933 and they lived in Clovis, New Mexico until the 1940s; then moving to Carlsbad, then Artesia and then Farmington, New Mexico in 1957. She married Carl Smith on June 1, 1976. He was a dispatcher for the Farmington Fire Department. They moved to Salt Lake City in 1983 and remained there until moving to Northern Idaho in 2002. She was a house wife, a book keeper for several companies including the Sam Thomas Motor Company in Carlsbad, New Mexico. She was owner and manager of the Avery Restaurant in Farmington, New Mexico until the 1970s. She continued to work part time in the restaurant business until finally retiring to raise a cock-a-poo pup named "Barney" and some of the world's biggest and most beautiful roses. Her favorite hobbies were fishing, crocheting, gardening, dancing, and playing dominoes and solitaire. She made world-class Mexican food and corn bread dressing to die for. She is survived by her husband Carl of Bonners Ferry; Son: Foster; Daughter: Trish of Bonners Ferry; Grandkids: Kevin and Lori of Chattaroy, WA; Great-grand daughters: Brittany of Salt Lake City and Chelsea at WSU. There are six nephews, four nieces, and three grand pups. The family is extremely grateful to the medical and care staff at the extended care facility in the Boundary Community Hospital. She received world-class care from world-class caring people. At 7 AM on February 22, 2008, she began a new adventure: reuniting with old friends and family, seeing new places, and playing once again with Barney among her roses.
