Doris Hutchens passed away at her daughter’s home near Naples, Idaho on June 19, 2008. Graveside services for Doris and Floyd Hutchens will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 10:00am in the Grandview Cemetery with inurnment following.
Doris Hutchens was born on June 4, 1931 to John Paul and Fannie Judith Gaffney. She was born and raised in Peoria, IL. Bud and Dori were high school sweethearts and were married in Peoria in 1950. They were married for 56 years.
Soon after Dori and Bud married, Bud joined the Army, and served in Korea. During that time Dori worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Co. On March 14, 1956, Dori’s daughter Paula was born followed by her son Phillip on May 5, 1960. Dori was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed doing volunteer work. When her children were young, she volunteered at their schools, and later at a shelter for teenage runaways.
Dori moved her family back and forth from Rockford, IL to Bellevue, WA and back to Rockford and then Westfield, NJ do to transfers with Bud’s work. She had to pack up a leave each home and the accompanying friends and memories. Dori and Bud were finally able to retire and move to Naples, ID in 1994 where they joined the United Methodist Church. Dori became involved with the Second Chance Animal Shelter and Thrift Store after their black lab “Angel” adopted them 7 years ago. She also was a member of the Naples Helping hands and the Bonners Ferry chapter of the Red Hat Society.
Dori lived every day as a gift and took loving care of Bud through his illness until he passed away at their home on Thanksgiving Day 1 ½ years ago. Dori passed away on June 19, 2008 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by her family, friends and her dog.
Dori was an inspiration in every way to so many with her Irish sense of love for people, nature and her love and trust in her Lord Jesus. She loved the ocean and the mountains. She loved her family and friends with all her heart and she was her daughter’s best friend.
