Dorothy (Dottie) Foust-Haynes Harrel (66) passed away at her home in Spokane, WA on July 6, 2008. A Rosary Service will be held on July 18, 2008 at 7:00pm at Assumption Catholic Church, 3624 West Indian Trail Rd., Spokane, WA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on July 19, 2008 at 10:00am at Assumption Catholic Church with a reception following the service at Jeff and Dottie's home at 7503 N. Tolt Court, Spokane, WA. After a year's battle with cancer, Dottie passed away in her home in Spokane, WA on July 6, 2008. Dottie was born in Bonners Ferry on January 12, 1942 to John and Rita Foust. She was the third child born to this union. She grew up in the timber industry and was very involved in 4-H, school activities and life in Bonners Ferry, as we know it. Dottie graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1960. After graduating, she married Donald Haynes. They met at the local ice cream shop, where Dottie worked. To this marriage four children were born, Tony, Lisa, Randy and Terry. Dottie worked hard on their 80 acre farm, tending to the animals, helping with the haying, usually cooking meals for the haying crew. She grew most their vegetables, canning them and loved to sew, bake and cook. She was very active in her family's life, including being involved in the kid's 4-H and was a room mother for her children at school. She also helped Don in his logging & brush piling business, even running skidder for him on a few occasions. She worked for several elderly people cleaning, painting their homes and helping where she could. Dottie was a member of St Ann's Catholic church. In 1979, she became manager of the "Before and After Shop", an infant, children's & maternity store, in Bonners. Dottie & daughter, Lisa enjoyed working together at the store. Dottie's husband, Don passed away in March 1980. In May 1981, Dottie married Jeff Harrell of Whittier, Ca. November 1981, the Navy stationed Jeff in Brindsi, Italy, where they embraced life in Italy along with Dottie's sons, Randy and Terry for 18 mos. After being transferred to San Diego, Dottie worked at the Broadway Department Store and then the Social Security Administration. In 1994, Dottie transferred to the Social Security Administration in Spokane, WA in which she worked until she retired due to her illness. She was a member of Assumption Catholic church in Spokane. Dottie will be remembered for her wonderful smile, friendliness and love for people especially her family. She was a hard worker, enjoying working with others. She was a gifted seamstress, cook and gardener. She had the ability to take on any challenge and do it well. She had a nurturing love for the many pets and farm animals she cared for. She enjoyed telling her children and grandchildren stories about growing up in Bonners and the good ole days with classmates, friends and family. A few stories shared was how she enjoyed dressing up and going to proms & dances, being fair princess and the fun she & her childhood friends had on the neighborhood "Devil's Tower" rope swing at the ole' Jimmy Hopkin's place on Van Buren street, where her daughter Lisa and family now reside. Dottie enjoyed huckleberry & morel mushroom picking, swimming and the great outdoors. She was a strong woman with a big heart. She was very competitive in the game of Rummy, especially when it came to playing with her mother, daughter, granddaughter & daughter in law, Parri. She was present & shared in the joy of her only grand daughter's birth, Jessica Dawn in 1991. Her heart was broken after her youngest son, Terry died in April 2002. Surviving members of Dottie's family are, husband Jeff Harrell of Spokane, WA, sons Anthony & wife Penny of Buffalo, WY and Randy Haynes & wife Parri of Littleton, CO, daughter Lisa West & husband Tim of Bonners Ferry and nine grandchildren, Casey, David & Jessica West, Donnie, Spencer, Colton & Dustin Haynes and Christopher & Matthew Haynes, one great grandchild Kaylee West, sister Bev Shaw & husband Don of Libby, MT, sister in law Judy Foust of Cashmere, WA, numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. She leaves behind many friends and her coworkers from the Social Security Administration office. Dottie is proceded in death by her parents, stepfather George Koppang, late husband Don, son Terry Haynes and most recently her brother Jack Foust.
