Joyce Trueblood passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 after a short battle with lung cancer. Memorial Services for family, friends and the community will be held on Saturday, May 24 , 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bonners Ferry Fairgrounds. Joyce was born on December 17, 1930 in Emmett, Idaho to Leo and Lottie (Cox) Fulgham. At age 10, Joyce’s family moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho where they had a farm in District 5. Joyce graduated from Bonners Ferry High School and went on to get her teaching degree from Lewis and Clark College. Joyce started her teaching career student teaching in St. Maries, Idaho at age 20. On October 4, 1952 Joyce married Jim Schuon of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and they had 3 children; Gerry (Schuon) Dinning, Bonnie (Schuon) Bush and Jim Schuon Jr. A near life-long resident of Bonners Ferry, Joyce taught at Valley View elementary school for over 35 years, touching the lives of thousands of students. In addition to teaching, Joyce was an active member of the United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She sat on the Hospital Board and was active with the Fry Foundation and the Festival of Trees. Joyce was a voracious reader , loved word puzzles and was an avid fan of the television shows: Survivor and The Walking Dead. Her three grandchildren Kyle, Travis and Nichole Bush were her shining stars. Joyce is survived by her brothers; Elbert (Dixie) Fulgham, Ron (Carrie) Fulgham and Terry (Diane) Fulgham; brother-in-law, George (Echo) Schuon, sisters-in-law Grace (Schuon) Leidt and Irene (Schuon) Vandenberg; her three children; Gerry (Schuon) Dinning, Bonnie (Schuon) Bush and Jim Schuon Jr.; her three grandchildren, Kyle, Travis and Nichole Bush and many beloved nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Lottie Fulgham; her husband, Jim Schuon; her brothers Delbert Fulgham and Lyle Fulgham and her second husband, Don Trueblood. The family sends our heart-felt gratitude and appreciation to the staff of the Boundary County Community Restorium where Joyce spent the last 2 years of her life. We thank them for their loving, compassionate care, with special thanks to Zachary Callister. We also want to thank Hospice, which helped so much during a difficult time. In lieu of flowers, we would like to encourage folks to make donations in her memory to either the Restorium or Hospice.
