Charlie Frank Poston (88) passed away on October 1, 2008 at the Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 10:00 am in the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home, Bonners Ferry, Idaho with inurnment following in the Grandview Cemetery.
Charlie F. Poston was born July 21, 1920 to John and Alice Gillard Poston. Charlie was one of six children, four brothers and two sisters; Lloyd, Lester John, Shirley and May. Charlie was born and raised in Bonners Ferry, Id he attended elementary and high school here. During high school his basketball team won the Panhandle Championship in 1939 the trophy is still on display at the Bonners Ferry High School. Charlie was an avid sports fan and enjoyed showing his grandchildren and great grandchildren the trophy he helped win. He also enjoyed spending time with his brothers and nephews hunting and fishing.
Charlie remained in Bonners Ferry until joining the US army in September of 1940.Charlie served 5 years in the US Army 4 of which were in the South West Pacific. He served in his home town unit Battery B 148th Field Artillery. After being discharged from the Army in August of 1945 Charlie met Maxine Gross in Tacoma Wa. They were married one month later and remained married for 55 years until the passing of Maxine. Charlie and Maxine returned to Bonners Ferry in 1946. Chuck and Maxine built their life in Bonners Ferry they raised 4 children; Dixie Whallon, Terrine Dickerson, Rebecca Poston and Kenneth Poston. Spending time with his children and grandchildren was the greatest joy in Charlie's life. Charlie worked at the local saw mills his entire life.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife Maxine Gross, parents, brothers Lloyd and Lester and sister May. Charlie is survived by his children Dixie Poston Whallon of Bonners Ferry, Terrine Poston Dickerson of Bonners Ferry, Rebecca Poston of Aurora, Il, Kenneth Poston and wife Penny of Davis, Ca.; grand children Shawnna Whallon Gust and Husband Bob Gust of Bonners Ferry ID, Tamara Dickerson Kemper and husband Jason Kemper of Couer D'Alene ID, Christopher Whallon and wife Casey Whallon of Spokane Wa, David Dickerson of Bonners Ferry Id, Hannah Lungren of Aurora Il, Jessica Lungren Hickey and Husband Brad Hickey of Chicago Il, Ashley, Lindsay and Adam Poston of Davis Ca.; great grand children Robby and Jenna Gust of Bonners Ferry, Nicholas, McKenzie and Chase Whallon of Spokane Wa, and Caden Kemper of Couer D'Alene Id; Brother John Poston of Bonners Ferry and sister Shirley Poston Thomas Messanger of Twin Falls Id. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
