Amanda Loewen (81) passed away at her home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho on April 20, 2009. A memorial service will be held for Amanda Loewen at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 16 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 6784 Cody Street in Bonners Ferry. Amanda passed away at 12:25 am on Monday, April 20, 2009 after a lengthy and courageously fought battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, Ernie Loewen and close family friends. Amanda was born in Kisching, Germany on January 12, 1928 to Anton and Maria Gmeiner. She migrated to America in 1947 and proudly became a United States citizen on September 10, 1963. She and her husband spent most of their married life in Roseville and Loomis, California before moving to Bonners Ferry in 1992. Amanda loved to entertain in her home. She was a skilled baker and liked to bake for family and friends. During the Viet Nam war she baked thousands of cookies and sent them to the servicemen overseas. She derived a great deal of pleasure in doing things for others. Amanda is survived by her husband of 46 years, Ernie Loewen, her children, Linda Nix of Paris, TX, John Atkin of Corning, CA, Jill Loewen of Salem, Or, Rodger Loewen of Salem, Or and Kenny Jason of Newcastle, WY. She leaves 2 sisters, Elizabeth Heshizer of Irwin, PA and Maria Knaus of Dorstetten, Germany, as well as 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Bonner Community Hospice, P.O. Box 1448, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
