Elsie Jean Voll (78) passed away at her home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho on April 26, 2009 after a short illness. Services will be held on Friday. May 1, 2009 at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with private inurnment in the Paradise Valley Cemetery. Elsie was born on July 29, 1930 in Fishtail, Montana to Earl and Myrtle (Isakson) Merrifield. She attended schools in Columbus, Montana, Paradise Valley and Bonners Ferry, Idaho. At the age of 16 she went to work caring for a lady in Naples, later for the Kootenai Valley Farms, and working as a housekeeper. Elsie married Elwood Voll on September 2, 1950 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. For 2 summers she worked with Elwood at the Deer Ridge Lookout watching for fires. They had no road, carried water from the creek and had no electricity. She also worked for the Commercial Hotel, the Fountain, and as a house keeper at the Community Hospital for 18 years and the Community Restorium for 5 years. Throughout the years she enjoyed Bible Studies, crocheting many baby sweaters and outfits, table cloths, doilies and bedspreads, pinochle, friends, family reunions, serving at the Senior Center. Elsie also enjoyed puzzles, Christmas, gardening, knitting and decorating, and making center pieces for the Sr. Citizens Center and volunteer work in the community. She was a member of the Community Fellowship Church, Tops, Sr. Citizens Center, Paradise Valley Grange and AARP. Survivors include her husband of over 58 years Elwood of Bonners Ferry, Sister Irene Rice of Bonners Ferry, Idaho; twin brothers Elden Merrifield of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and Ellis Merrifield of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho’ sister-in-laws Irma Merrifield and Sharon Merrifield and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Lynn Earl and Myrtle Lenore Merrifield, sisters Anna Lofing and Betty Irene Merrifield, brothers Earl (Bud) Raymond, Russell and Alvin Merrifield and her infant son Kendon Voll.
