Kathy Lee Stone passed away on July 19, 2016 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Washington. Grave side services will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 10:00am in the Grandview Cemetery in Boners Ferry, Idaho. Kathy was born 21 September 1956 in Eureka, California. Early in her child hood with her family moved to Oregon, then moved again to De Queen, Arkansas. Spending her teenage years there. She moved to Tulsa, Ok. where she lived there until she joined the US Army in 02 Feb 1986. She would go to Fort Jackson SC for her basic training and Fort Lee VA for her AIT(Advanced Individual Training). After AIT, she received orders, and was sent to the 109th Forward Support Battalion in Fort Lewis Wa. working in supply depot at the Division Issue Point. While she was working at the 109th FSB she met the love of her life, SSG Dirk L. Stone. She married Dirk on 23 March 1987. Where they both continued to work at 109th FSB, Dirk at the Battalion Motor Pool and Kathy at the DIP until February 1988. When they received orders to be stationed in Germany for the next 5 years. She was assigned 228th Supply Company, Wilkins Barracks until Apr of 1991, where she was Honorably Discharge from the US Army. And continued in the Army Reserve until 2 Feb 1994. She stayed in Germany with her husband SSG Dirk Stone as an Army wife supporting him on his deployment to Desert Storm and throughout his stay in Germany. When Kathy’s husband received orders for Fort Bragg, NC. She followed him there and supported him as well in the many exercises he participated during his stay at Ft Bragg until his retirement in August of 1997. Then in May of 2000. Kathy and her husband went to Oklahoma City, Ok to participate in her son’s wedding and continuing on to Bonners Ferry Idaho. Kathy worked for the Kootenai River Inn Casino & Spa, for a short time, until 2001 where she found work at the Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry ID. She worked there in the kitchen as a Nutritionist Aid and Cook. Kathy also worked and assisted her friend Lauren Bowlby and other friends making special dinners for the residents each month. Which she felt this was one of her greatest accomplishments while working there. These events were even written up in the local newspaper. Kathy worked there until September of 2015. For years Kathy had been having problems her heart and high blood pressure. Though they were under control, in February of 2016 Kathy started developing problems with her liver. Then on July 4th Kathy went to the Emergency Room in Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint for pain in her lower back and was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Spokane Wa. for a blood clot in her right leg. While there she had more severe complications with her liver. On July 18th after a procedure she had a large stroke later that evening which ended her life the next morning on July 19th. Kathy is preceded in death by her mother Christine Price, her sister Kristy Smith Hosier, her mother in-law Esther Stone & father in-law John Stone. Kathy is survived by her husband Dirk Stone, her son Shawn Leach & his wife Kelsey and her 4 grandchildren Hannah, Reagan, Lydia, and Jack. Her sister Karen Smith Vanhoose and brother in-law Terry of Wright City Oklahoma and Brother Kirt Smith of Rogers Arkansas. Kathy L. Stone will always live in the hearts of her family and friends being remember as a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, she will never be forgotten.
