Jack Gladney

Jack Gladney (83) passed away at the Bonner General Hospital in Sandpoint, Idaho on June 24, 2009. Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 2:00pm in the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Jack, or “Papo” as he was known by most friends and family, was born November 8, 1925 in Baytown, Texas. He grew up in Alice, Texas and graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1943. Two days later, at the age of 17, Jack joined the United States Navy and served as a Range Finder in seven major battles aboard the USS Miller between September 4th, 1943 and December 28th, 1945. After serving in the Navy Jack became involved in raising and ranching Santa Gertrudis and Beefmaster cattle in South Texas. He remained in the cattle business from 1945 until retirement in 1988, during which time he managed the largest registered Beefmaster cattle herd in the world. After retirement Jack and his wife, Faye Gladney, moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Jack enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, gardening, and cooking. Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Faye Gladney; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Brenda Gladney of Amarillo, TX; daughter and son-in-law Jackie and David Smith of Bonners Ferry, ID; grandchildren Stacee and Jeremy Dineen, Jamie and Garrett Hull, Cody Gladney, and Casey Smith; and great-grandchildren Erin and Carson Dineen and Rowdy Hull.
