Calvin Robert Phillips died on December 28, 2009, at the age of 80 a native of California; he passed away at his home with his family. Private family services will be held.
Calvin was born December 21, 1929 in Merced, California to Robert and Rena Phillips.
After high school Calvin worked for the government as a packer in Yosemite National Park, met and married his wife Joan before joining the U.S. Navy. He served 4 years on the U.S.S. Valley Forge among other ships during the Korean War.
His occupation was in the construction industry, where he was air tract driller and blaster. Calvin worked in California, Montana, Alaska, Tennessee, Iran and the Virgin Islands, he loved his work. He retired in 1985 and moved to his home in Bonners Ferry.
Calvin loved the outdoors, deer, elk, moose, and antelope hunting; fishing in Alaska; taking rides, cutting wood, gardening and western music.
Calvin is survived by Joan, his high school sweetheart and wife of 59 years; daughters, Linda Sparks and Suzanne Neumeyer; son, Scott Phillips; sister, Hilda Ott and nine grandchildren. Calvin was preceded in death by his son, James Phillips in 1999.
When asked if he would change anything in his life, he said he might comb his hair more often. He will be missed.
