Kenneth Edward Nelson (51) passed away on April 21, 2010 at the Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 12:00 - 2:00pm at the Dinning hall at the Boundary County Fair Grounds.
Kenneth started his life on July 9th of 1958, born to Richard Lee & Ida Mae Nelson, here in Bonners Ferry. Kenny attended grade school at Mount Hall Elementary and later graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1976. During his high school years, Ken worked at L.P. Lumber Mill. Ken later worked for Bonners Ferry Glass as well as a Dairy Farm. After high school, he married Theresa Faber on June 25th 1977. They moved to Boise where he continued to work as a glass glazier until January of 1978 when they decided to move back to Bonners Ferry. Once back in the area, Ken again started working doing glass work, then later changed careers and became a carpenter for some time. He changed careers again, and begun to work as a logger for a while. He started into a partnership he helped create as C&N Logging and carried on for more than 4 years in the company. Ken's CB handle was Elk hunter. In 1992 Ken went to work at Idaho Dept. of Lands as a wild-land firefighter and part time timber cruiser. That is where Ken really found his niche in life. Ken stayed with IDL until 2004 which included many years of “hard on your body” type work. This type of work made it difficult for him to continue with this career full time. Ken then started to drive Grain Truck for some local companies North of Bonners Ferry during the summer months. He continued doing this each year up to last year and enjoying the size of truck each time he got into one.
Ken and Theresa enjoyed raising and teaching their two sons, Joshua and Jeremy, about all of life's enjoyments such as the sounds and sights of wildlife, and about fishing, hiking, camping, and most of all hunting big game, waterfowl, and upland game birds. The family were often seen together at archery ranges, shotgun trap ranges and rifle/pistol ranges. During the months when they were not out shooting one piece of equipment or another, they were often found fly fishing together or enjoying a high mountain lake somewhere in North Idaho catching some trout. Often enough, Ken and Theresa enjoyed teaching their children about growing vegetables in the garden usually planted and growing every year. As the children grew older Ken got the boys into the many hours of canning and preserving the crops they harvested each year.
Ken always enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends just chatting away; given enough time Ken always had a remembrance story to tell and was thrilled to hear other peoples, “I remember when” story.
Ken and Theresa just recently bought themselves their perfect little house and Ken was enjoying his retirement years and spending time with their grandson, or sitting along the banks of the Kootenai River with his lab. Ken is survived by his loved wife Theresa Nelson and his two sons; Joshua Nelson and wife Teresa, and Jeremy Nelson and wife Kristen and Ken's first grandson Alexander Nelson.
