Ernest ‘Ernie’ Brindos (73) passed away at Eastern State Hospital, Medical Lake WA on May 5, 2010 one day short of his 74th birthday. Veteran grave side services will be held at the Grandiew Cemetery on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11am. Ernie was born to Charles and Trany Brindos on May 6, 1936, in International Falls, MN. Growing up Ernie lived in Minnesota, Idaho, Oregon and California. While his family was living in Florence Oregon he meets his future wife of 55 years. He joined the US Army at the age of 18 and married his sweetheart Carol A Brunette Brindos in Newport Or before departing for Korea. Ernie proudly served his country fighting in both Korea and 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. The Army offered an opportunity for his wife and daughter to live in France for 2 ½ years in a small village off base. He was also stationed at Fort Ord, CA, Fort Lewis, WA, Fort Benning, GA and Fort Wainwright, AK. It was in Alaska that Ernie was honorably discharge from the Army. He loved to fish and hunt so Alaska was the perfect place to live for quite a few years prior to relocating to Auburn WA to be closer to the family. While living in Auburn Ernie worked for the Boeing and enjoyed working on customizing his cars and going to the local car shows. His favorite custom car was a lilac colored 1955 Pontiac Chieftain nicknamed ‘The TinIndian’. Ernie retired from the Boeing in 1995 and soon after he and Carol purchased their retirement home in Bonners Ferry. Ernie found the Lord late in his life and was a member of the Bonners Ferry Baptist Church. He found support and comfort with his church family. His family gets great comfort in knowing they will one day see him again. Ernie is survived by his wife Carol, daughter LaDonna Thornton Brindos, grandsons Jason and Travis Thornton, great grandchildren DeShaun Charles Thornton and Aalyce Thornton; along with his siblings Shirley Stevens, Sharon Sharp, Roberta Pemp, Ray Brindos and many nieces and nephews. Ernie surpassed his parents Charles and Trany Brindos and his sister Susan Brindos Stevens.
