Alma A. Pitman, 89, passed away on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at Boundary Community Hospital in Bonners Ferry, ID due to a fall she didn't recover from. She was born September 28, 1930 in Huntley, Wyoming to Harley and Oca (Castor) Arndt. No services are planned due to the family being scattered throughout the United States and the Covid-19 pandemic. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in Torrington. She will be buried next to her husband on his birthday, August 26th. Alma spent her early years around Torrington, Lingle and Fort Laramie. She married Eugene C. Pitman on May 3, 1946, in Oakland, California. They made their home in Torrington. Alma was a wonderful homemaker and cook. On occasion she did odd jobs to get out of the house. She worked part time in the early 60's at the Wyoming drive-in theater and McKenna's greenhouse on the West Highway. In 1967 they moved to Washington State and made their home in Olalla. Alma worked at Al’s store in Olalla for a few years. She then became a bailiff in Port Orchard. Gene retired in 1984 and they built a beautiful log house. In 1995 they moved to Fortine, Montana where they raised Scottish Highlander cattle. Alma joined the Mountain View Homemakers Club. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies, quilting, tole painting, ceramics, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, needlepoint, and zipper art and anything else that came along. Alma got the recipe and learned how to make her Aunt Ethel's lime pickles. They were the best ever! After Gene passed away in 2006 she lived alone for 10 years. Alma’s daughter wanted her closer to her and she became a resident at the Boundary County Community Restorium in June 2016. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 half-sisters, and 1 half-brother. She is survived by her children: Jim (Lauri) Pitman of Olalla, Washington; Linda Thompson of Troy, Montana; and Brenda (Bill) Huyck of Fortine, Montana; 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 6 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren and 4 step great great grandchildren.
