Carrol Ilene Mastre was born on April 22,1942 to Elijah and Francis Jones in Dallas, Oregon. She passed away peacefully in her home in Bonners Ferry, Idaho surrounded by her family on November 25, 2024. She was 82 years old.
Mom was the second of four children: older brother Johnnie Jones, younger brother Larry Jones, and younger sister Pamela Smedley, all living in Oregon.
As a child of a logger, the family moved around a lot and mom went to several different schools, finally graduating from Philomath High School in Philomath, Oregon.
Mom met Glenn Mastre while he was working in a Veterans hospital in Roseburg, Oregon in 1960. They were married on May 10, 1961 at the Hitchin’ Post in Coeur ‘d Alene, Idaho, and settled in Bonners Ferry. On October 7, 1961, their first child, a son, Stephen Glenn, was born. He was followed by a second son, Brian Todd, born on June 20, 1963, and daughter, Deanna Rae (Yaeger), born on August 15, 1965.
Mom’s interests included sewing, crocheting, reading, among other things. She owned the Mode O Day store in downtown Bonners Ferry for a couple of years. She also worked as a secretary at LP in Moyie Springs, D & D Service, the Unemployment office and with Candy Beck working with special needs adults.
Carrol was preceded in death by both parents, husband Glenn, son Brian, grandson Tyler, and brother Johnnie Jones. She passed from COPD, kidney and heart failure.
She is survived by son Steve (Deanna) Mastre of Anchor Point, Alaska, daughter Deanna (Pat) Yaeger of Bonners Ferry, granddaughters Sara (Kara) Kerby of Spokane, Washington, Callie Anne (Michael) Scalia of Parker, Colorado, Leeza (Drew) Johnson of Seattle, Washington, Jessica (Darrell) Brooks of Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, Kristie Bottineau of Anchor Point, Alaska, and several great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Memorial service will be held at the Mountain View Mennonite Church on December 6, 2024 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope House in Moyie Springs.
