Clara Ruth (Daughtry) Allinger was born December 17, 1928 to Thomas William and Sarah Lily (Kenyon) Daughtry in Long Beach, California. She stepped into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 10, 2020 from her son’s home near Moyie Springs, Idaho. Two formative events in Clare’s life were growing up during the Great Depression and losing her mother at age eight, experiences she referenced all her life. Her “can-do” feisty attitude, dry English wit, and numerous sayings caused many chuckles, but also showed a depth of character and resilience her family greatly admired. Clare sang beautifully and wanted to sing professionally, but respected her father’s advice, taking business classes in college, which she later used as a Title and Escrow Officer. She had previously worked as a civilian employee at Long Beach Naval Station. She married Richard Louis Allinger in 1957, and they had two sons, Thomas Alvin and Phillip Andrew. Though the marriage ended in divorce, she worked hard to give her sons a happy home, taking them on many trips and adventures. After finishing her career, she moved from California to Bend, Oregon, and later to Bonners Ferry, Idaho. While in Bend she volunteered long-term at Saint Charles Hospital and with the Bend Senior Center. She loved to sing, and participated in many singing groups, including church choirs and the Senior Serenaders at Bend Senior Center. She had recordings made of her singing, including a solo for her son Phil’s wedding. Anyone who knew Clare knew she loved cats! She rescued many but had an especially soft spot for orange 6-toed kitties. Clare leaves behind sons Tom and Phil (Ruth) and grandchildren Jessica, Matthew, Benjamin, Granite, and Andrew. We look forward to spending eternity praising God together with you, Mom! A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 2 pm at Providence Bible Presbyterian Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, a gift to Gideons International in Clare’s name would be appreciated.
