Edwin Dale Dyck

Edwin Dale Dyck was born at home on May 19, 1936, the 7th child of George and Leah Boeckner Dyck, near Hesston, Kansas. He passed away, quietly, surrounded by his family, in the early morning hours on January 23, 2020, reaching the age of 83. The cause of death was dementia and a stroke. Edwin grew up on the family farm and swam in the nearby creek. He received his formal education at the local country school, walking about a mile to school in the heat, wind, and cold. At the age of 13 he heard the Lord’s Call, received the New Birth, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, at the Meridan Congregation, Hesston, Kansas on February 1, 1948. He was faithful to his vows until the end. In lieu of military service Dad served in Roseburg, Oregon at a Mental Hospital. At his midterm break, at the age of 20, he married Loretta Wedel. Three sons and three daughters were born to this union. They made their first home in Roseburg, Oregon, later moving to Hesston, Kansas where their first two daughters were born. They lived on the same yard as his parents. Dad tried his hand at dairying, but decided that he was not cut out to be a farmer. Opportunity called the little family to North Idaho in 1960. Dad was involved in various occupations until 1963 when he bought a Service Station. He continued in this occupation until he retired in 2006. Working for the public offered Dad many opportunities to have a spiritual conversation, offer a tract, and invite the passerby home to a meal or a nights lodging. Our parents enjoyed being of service, whether it was volunteering on the ambulance, serving on the School Board, or being Papa and Mama at the Child Care Home at Gallup, New Mexico. In later years, after retirement from the shop, he stayed busy volunteering at whatever his hands found to do. Sometimes it was to prune raspberries, mow lawn, or be a maintenance man at the local library. Christian Life was important to Dad. Daily devotions with the family, prayer, and church attendance spoke of a day by day walk with his Lord. In later years, we as a family appreciated the testimony from a nurse that said Dad lived his Faith even through his disease of Alzheimer’s. Left to cherish fond memories are his loving wife, Loretta; children; Nancy and Garold Peaster, Grant Nebraska; Jolene and Pat Dirks, Jim and Renee , Allen and Stephanie , Willis and Luanna Dyck, Lonetta and Kendall Dirks, Bonners Ferry, Idaho. 27 Grandchildren and 65 Great- Grand children. Sisters and Brothers-in-law; Althea Dyck, Walnut Hill, Florida; Evelyn Dyck, Elwood Koehn, Bob Mininiger, Moundridge, Kansas; Lois Johnson, Harold Wedel, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by; his parents, parents-in-law, 3 brothers, 2 sisters, 2 infant siblings, 3 Sisters-in-law, 2 Brothers-in-law , 1 nephew and 1 nephew-in-law.   The Family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers at ECF, Auburn Crest Hospice, and Sunset Home. Funeral Services were held on January 27, 2020, at the Mt. View Congregation, Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Burial was in the adjoining church cemetery. Ministers Glenn Ensz, Shane Ensz, Ben Nystrom,Roger Unruh and Lavern Koehn officiated.
