Ruth Claire Long-Stickney was born in College Place, Washington on March 6, 1929, to Ivan Dale Long and Ethel Sarah Hopkins-Long. Ruth passed away in her sleep on August 8, 2022, in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, at age 93.
A memorial Service was held on August 14, at the Bonners Ferry Seventh-day Adventist Church. The family will have a private graveside service. The love of her life Leon G. Stickney preceded her passing on August 17, 2008. Her remains will join Leon’s at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington.
Her work experience was diverse, she wore many hats, and many were at the schools where Leon was Principal/Teacher, as they were indeed a team. A few roles are Academy Dean, homemaker, babysitter, home economics teacher, typing teacher, choir director, hospital food service manager, Conference librarian, bookkeeper, Health-van director, seamstress, and event coordinator.
Ruth was a follower of Jesus and a lover of people. Showing genuine interest in the lives of those she met. Pat Wilson said it well “She helped so many people at San Francisco Central (SDA Church). She was a trailblazer for women.” She had a long prayer list for those she cared about. She collected many to add to the family, who referred to her as their second mom or aunt.
After marrying Leon, they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska; Brighton, Colorado; Ceres, Sonora, Dinuba, San Francisco, Hollister all in California, Hilo, Hawaii; Daly City, CA; Auburn, WA, after Leon’s death she also lived in Tillamook, OR and Bonners Ferry, ID.
Ruth was the oldest living of a family of ten (seven from Ivan’s second marriage) her oldest brother died at birth and precedes the 9 in death. Ruth leaves her legacy with five children, their spouses, 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
